Audubon TERN 2014 - 2015 Program Highlights

As we begin the 2nd year of Audubon TERN we would like to highlight just some of the incredible accomplishments made possible by our outstanding corps of volunteers.

These activities are playing a critically important role in preserving and protecting bird species and their habitat throughout the Texas Gulf Coast region.

Foraging and Nesting Habitat Monitoring:
  • Over 73 sites currently being monitored (see mapped locations below).
  • Over 4,247 hours logged for Individual Monitoring Surveys
  • 12 of 17 Counties being surveyed along the Texas Coast
  • Farthest northeast TERN volunteers (Lake Charles, LA)
  • Farthest southwest TERN volunteers (La Feria, Tx in Cameron County)
TERN Programs, Events and Activities
  • 1,041 Individuals participated in TERN workshops, trainings, group surveys, and workdays
  • 7,737 hours logged in these TERN Programs
Additional Accomplishments:
  • Bird Inventories produced by Monthly Bird Surveys for Galveston Island State Park, 
  • Sweetwater Property in Galveston (owned by Galveston Bay Foundation), and Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Monitoring of Sundown Island in Matagorda Bay and immediate reporting after Tropical Storm Bill 2015.
  • Collaboration projects between partners, researchers, and other professional organizations.

We are always looking for new TERN volunteers and we would gladly welcome your participation in this important Citizen Science Project. New and experienced birders are always welcomed and no certifications are required to take part in the TERN program. For information please contact our office.
