On-line Training: Rookery Island Monitoring

Becoming a participant in Audubon TERN’s Rookery Island Monitoring Project requires that you receive training on data collection and recording. We also require that you review all of the Audubon TERN volunteer documentation to ensure you understand your role and responsibilities as a TERN volunteer.

Sites for Rookery Monitoring are typically on islands or habitats which may be accessable only by motorized boat or kayak. Volunteers must stay off of islands at a safe distance at all times when conducting rookery monitoring to reduce disturbance to the birds. Through this Audubon TERN training program you will learn survey and data collection protocols, as well as observation techniques that limit impacts on nesting birds.

Completing Rookery Monitoring Training can be accomplished in 4 steps.

1) Review all of the Audubon TERN Volunteer Documentation. Some of these documents will require your signature and must be returned to Audubon TERN to become an official participant in the project.

2) Download/Print a copy of the Rookery Monitoring Data Sheet. You will need this to follow along with the training video.

3)  Watch the 2 Audubon TERN On-line Training Videos (see below).

4) Complete the Rookery Monitoring On-line Training Form.

Once you have successfully completed these steps you will receive a confirmation email from Audubon TERN indicating that you have met the training requirements.
