Dickinson Bay Bird Island Workday - February 8th

We are pushing for one more workday before nesting season starts and are in need of 15 volunteers to help us on Monday February 8th 2016 from 9:00am to noon.  We will be working on Dickinson Bay Bird Island owned and managed by Galveston Bay Foundation. Phillip Smith of GBF and Scott Williams of USFWS will be providing boats and transporting volunteers from the Dickinson Bay Bird Island

Tasks include:
  • broadcast ant bait
  • distribute rodent bait
  • clear vegetation from the "bare ground" area
  • pick up loose trash

Please be prepared for the cold weather: warm, quick dry clothing, avoid cotton if possible, a hat or head covering, bring boots or tight lace shoes (we may need to get our feet wet as we move from the boat to the island), and if preferred a change of dry shoes/socks for the car ride home.  Audubon TERN will provide gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, water cooler (bring a refillable container), and snacks.  All other materials needed for the workday will be provided for you.

We will be meeting at the Dickinson Bay Boat Ramp- access to the boat ramp is on the north side of Dickinson Bay along Hwy 146.  Please park your car under the bridge away from the ramp to give adequate space for boat trailer parking. There is a map below showing the boat ramp in relation to the bird island.
