Bird Nerd Series for September 7th, 2015
Coastal Conservation and Habitat Management
We are kicking off our fall TERN Bird Nerd Series
Workshops on Saturday, September 5th 2015 from 9am-11am at
the Texas City Prairie Preserve (4702 Hwy 146 N Texas City Tx 77590)!
Amanda Hackney will be speaking on Coastal Conservation and
Habitat Management. We have had many fun and exciting days doing
restoration work on our rookery island and yet so many questions remain “Why do we plant
shrubs? Why do we hate imported fire ants? What do you guys do
during a rookery island workday? What kind of research is going on during
the non-nesting season? Can volunteers do anything to help bird conservation?” Come
find out the nuts and bolts of rookery island management techniques! We’ll
discuss the things we do to “get the nurseries ready” for the birds’ return in
February and talk about plans for upcoming workdays.
We will also have a calendar of scheduled Restoration Island
Workdays for this fall available for sign up at this workshop. Many of these
islands are either accessible by boat or kayak for those interested.
