Hosted Survey at Lafitte’s Cove…
Recently, we’ve heard from a number of TERN Volunteers requesting group surveys at additional sites throughout the area. With over 70 locations now being monitored there are several outstanding sites to choose from – not to mention the totally awesome TERN volunteers working in these areas!
On Thursday, September 24th, from 8am – 11am, we will conduct the first of these group surveys at Lafitte’sCove on Galveston, Island. Chris Boodley has been monitoring this site as part of Audubon TERN’s Foraging Habitat program and she will serve as the “host leader” for this activity. We will also have the opportunity to visit other sites in the immediate area (time permitting).
Group surveys are a great way to learn more about Audubon TERN’s citizen science monitoring program. New and experienced birders are always welcomed and no certifications or training are required to take part in these activities. Please pass the word along to interested individuals.

Rollover Pass Rookery Island Clean-Up...
These workdays have been highly successful and many TERN volunteers look forward to continuing this important effort. Our first clean-up of the fall will be held on Friday, September 25th, at Roller Pass. Activities will begin at 9:00 am (meet at the boat ramp) with a break at 11:30 for a quick lunch, then ending at 2:00 pm. Volunteers should bring a lunch or large snack. We’ll provide water, chips, cookies, and granola bars.
Come prepared! We suggest participants wear protective clothing, long pants and closed toed shoes. Be sure to bring sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, and work gloves. Tools and supplies will be provided. Watch the weather and dress appropriately.
Primary access to the Rollover Pass Islands is by KAYAK ONLY. There are a VERY LIMITED number of seats available on the boat and those individuals that do not want to kayak must contact the TERN Office DIRECTLY for seat availability.
